Jolene Solomon is starting off the New Year with a renewed sense of hope and with her life fully intact. She owes her life to her mule named Lou. The Southern Standard in McMinnville where Solomon lives reported that she had just finished her supper on New Year’s Day when she heard Lou making a ruckus.

63 year old Solomon lives alone and decided to step out to see why the mule was so upset. That is when she saw that her house was on fire. She immediately called 911 and waited for the firefighters to save her home. Unfortunately her home and everything inside of it was burned.

Lou was a gift from her father to her and her sister – Blue – to help out with the farm. When Blue died Lou had a hard time getting over her.

While Solomon lost everything she said that she is thankful to still have her life thanks to Lou. For now she will be staying with friends and family until she can rebuild the home that she has lived in her whole life.
